Capturing the spirit of history mixed with invention, Richard Wrightman's collection of campaign style furniture is influenced by Danish Modern as much as it is by British colonial style.

Wrightman's love of campaign furniture began with a late 19th century collapsible chair-  very much like the Chatwin chairs he produces today- that belonged to his father. As a child Wrightman would take apart and reassemble this chair countless times as his family set up camp between continents. 

“I appreciated the functionality of the design, and I always felt that the chair had its own secret history of places it had been … Campaign furniture is both romantic and timeless”. 

Wrightman's interests in understanding processes, materials and the history and evolution of design led him from his early work in fashion to fabrication. In 1996 he went to  Product & Design, one of New York City’s leading architectural fabrication firms. There he gained experience building prototypes and production pieces for top architects and designers. What began as an exploration ended up as a life-changing experience and four years later he left to establish his own company with a collection of furniture that has grown to over a hundred distinct designs.

In 2021 Wrightman moved his home and furniture workshop from NYC to Litchfield County, Connecticut. His new studio is located on the Farmington River in New Hartford. With some of his original NYC team and new members he continues the tradition of making beautiful furniture by hand. 

He lives in his dream 1816 farmhouse in Norfolk with his partner, their dog Hugo and two cats.
